Let me just start off by saying that I am a lifelong resident of Oak Park, and I love my city! My name is Mrs. Alyssa Klein and I'm general education social worker for Oak Park Preparatory Academy. This is my second year in the district and I love my job! I work with students individually and facilitate small group sessions on coping and social skills. I also provide services for students who are on a 504 plan, and I work to establish school-wide programs for various issues in the middle school.
I earned by bachelor's degree in journalism from Oakland University and my master's degree in social work from Wayne State University. Before joining Oak Park School District, I was a social worker for the Detroit Police Department’s Victim Assistance Program. I provided crisis intervention and counseling for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, secondary victims of homicide. Prior to joining the Detroit Police Department, I worked for Ascension/St. John Providence - Eastwood Clinics as a therapist, and ALS of Michigan as a social worker. I completed my field education at New Oakland Child Adolescent Family Center and the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center.
